History
Kinnaka Hiraken was born the only child of Senori and Togan, two very old high elves, in the Celladon Forest. His birth, though normally considered an extremely happy one for elves became a bitter one. Kinnaka has always been able to feel the emotions and psychic residue left over from large emotional events. When he was in the womb, Senori had to remain calm or Kennaka would twist and writhe violently. When the pain of childbirth begain, Kinnaka, though unthinking a the time, fought and fought to not be born—to remain in the womb where it was safe and Senori felt no pain. He litterally held on against being born. the stress of the and the internal bleeding caused by Kinnaka left his mother too weak to live. Kinnaka felt her dieing and knew, somehow, that he was the cause of it. He lives this moment over and over again in his dreams. Since he was too little to understand anything that was going on, the dreams are simply filled with blackness, pain, light, and death. He has not been able to avoid these in his 25 years.
Togan lived alone with Senori for 50 years before she died. He was unsued to not having her around and knew even les about raising a baby. Kinnaka was often let with other women of the village, which only served to increase his isolation. Between this and the constant nightmares, Kinnaka grew more and more angry. Though, he tried to fit in, he always felt the stares and the anger from the other elves—most particularly his own father. When he was eight, he was introduced to the string instruments as his father was taught and Kinnaka found some solace in the violin and in singing. Most elves are known for their melodic, joyful singing. Though Kinnaka’s voice was just as melodic, the pain in his soul escaped as tortuous, haunting melodies. None could deny that he had ability, but also none could stand the pain and the torment exposed through his singing and playing. If he thought he was isolated before, the next 10 years increased that isolation.
At ten years of age, he was taught the martial arts: the Naginata, the ancient elvish pole arm, the evlish sword; a curved blade much like a scimitar, Chin Na, and the short bow. Kinnaka relished these studies, however his instructors were growing concerned about the aggression that he showed to other students. He always fought at 100%, even when he was supposed to only be working at 25-50%. If another student beat him, he rained down terror on them as quick as he could—and Kinnaka was quick, even for an elf. By the time he was 25, Kinnaka was not feeling ostracized, but being ostracized. He could feel every hurt that he gave to others, feel every loathing thought and was plainly being eaten up inside. That was when one of the Istari took him under his wing.
Iwakuro examined Kinnaka and was shocked to find that the youth was bound tightly to the emotion rune. After understanding Kinnaka’s birthing and dreams, Iwakuro felt that if Kinnaka could control his anger, he could reset his mental balance. He started teaching the boy about the association that he was born with. Kinnaka felt the connection immediately and engrossed himself in his study. However, the night terrors only continued as did the youths inability concentrate. A year after working with Iwakuro, Kinnaka brewed over. He was on the Chin Na field working on a shoulder lock, when his opponent punched him. Kinnaka let loose and yanked the shoulder. When his opponent’s sholder pulled out of socket, he screamed in pain. The instructor came over and Kinnaka felt the waves of pain descend on his. He didn’t break the hold and was thrown off the field of combat.
When the Elvish council came back, he had been banned from the village. Iwakuro argued for him, and eventually won out. He was allowed to stay. The incident, however, was the turning point for Kinnaka. He took what little he owned; his sword, naginata, dagger, clothes and left the village. He decided that he would move to a place where there were people that he didn’t care about, whose pain would leave him alone. A place where his mother’s dead soul didn’t haunt him every night. He stole a boat and headed up the Nesser river to Thallin. In Thallin, he heard about the newy formed County of Greyhawk and decided that it could use his weapons.
