This afternoon as we rode, Shasivin informed me that within the next day or two, we would be entering a town, the first time we have done that in several weeks. The decision surprised me, as the Captain had formerly stated that we were going to avoid all towns until we were well clear of Iuz. The town we will reach tomorrow however, Greenreach by name, sits astride Iuz’s theoretical border with the Wolf Nomad lands. The plains nomads, it goes without saying, show little interest in it, and as a consequence, it is fully under the control of Iuz troops. But we’re currently running very low on food, and if we don’t stock up soon, we will be on half-rations or worse by the time we hit our next major town. It seems that the old adage that necessity breeds recklessness is true.
Because of this forewarning, I was less than surprised to find us called to conclave this evening, where the change of plan was announced, along with the usual quest for options. We are not likely to welcomed in a city controlled by Iuz, so in the end, we decided to send one empty wagon to Greenreach with a small team representing themselves as members of a caravan from the Bandit Kingdoms taking lumber to Ket and dropping in to buy food. A likely enough story, I believe, though these things never seem to play out as intended.
I hope all goes well on the morrow. You see, I have a personal stake in the success of this mission. As he is our Quartermaster, I know Shasivin will be one of those going into town. That being the case, I made him promise to bring me at least a passable bottle of port. Oh, I am looking forward to tomorrow night!
