01 May, 1211 [1 May 1211]

Well, we did it. Shasivin and I approached the Captain and Firena, and they have given us their blessing to see each other personally. Naturally, there are a huge number of rules involved, which I think we both understand. Our involvement cannot compromise either our own integrity or the Company’s safety. I’ve talked to Shasivin, and we will be, to the extent we are capable of it, using Master Sergeant Drathon and Sergeant Hanar as our example. I don’t have the years of field experience that Hanar has, though she didn’t either when she met Drathon. I only hope Shasivin and I can meld our personal and professional lives as seamlessly as they do.

Obviously, with the new arrangement, I will no longer be able to oversee Shasivin’s duties as Quartermaster Sergeant. I have suggested, and the Captain has approved, Dreune to take over that position. Perhaps he will become the Logistics Officer or the Supply Officer or something. Naturally, that will be for the Captain to decide.

For the time being, we will not be changing tents. I don’t know that I am ready for that large a step right now, and I know Shasivin isn’t. For all his ready camaraderie amongst his peers, especially Cust of course, the poor man somehow seems clumsy and awkward with me. He is getting better though, even if he is taking an awful ribbing about our relationship. I hope it doesn’t last too long, especially as it seems to bother him tremendously. He doesn’t show it, of course, but when we are alone (as if we are ever truly alone!) I can tell. At least Dreune has had some of the focus taken off of him; I was beginning to think he’d never hear the end of that cloak incident!
