Council Preparations [14 Jun 1211]
After Firena gives Tar the update, he mulls things over in his mind. Morven, Tar, and Firena discuss things for the next hour an hour and come to the following conclusions:
- Tar will host a command staff meeting at 0700 at the Landgraf’s house. He is fine with Drathon’s non-attendance. Someone has to watch the camp. Firena agrees—Drathon will watch the camp. Firena, Dreune, and Morven will be there.
- Tar wants to know all the details of the two attacks. Since she doesn’t have the details now, he wants those before bed-time.
- Saphira should be watched by Nyra’s spiritual watchers. They can’t get into the house, but Firena should know where Saphira is at all times. It wouldn’t hurt to always have a team near her or in sight of her at all times as well. Firena should also be aware if Saphira is destroying papers or the like. That will be more difficult and may not be possible.
- Tar also wants to know tonight if we believe that we can take Saphira’s house and what the expected fallout it.
- Lastly, Firena is concerned about Tar far too much. He is safe (right now) and there doesn’t seem to be a threat (other than Shalbiri) from the town. In fact, they seem fairly concerned that he not be hurt. However, from a leader’s point of view, his death may be considered an acceptable loss compared to the end of the world. Firena responds that if he could see himself, he’d be worried too.
Because Shalbiri is in town, Tar requests that Firena place a watcher on himself and Firena as well. Firena is to know if the woman, or any other siginifcant danger is near either of them. That needs to happen tonight.
Firena agree and heads back to the camp with her team. When she returns, about 9:00, she finds Tar looking very tired and haggard and once again tries to check him out. He, once again waves her off telling her that he just needs sleep. He talked to the Landgraf after Firena left and spent some time in mental interrogations. This effort, at the end of the day, was a little much for him. He’ll feel better in the morning, though he beleives that he will need something to deaden the pain, but allow him to keep his wits. As Firena unpacks her kit for a mild analgesic, Tar fills Firena in on the coversation.
The Company’s entreaty will be heard by council, but only two are allowed into the chambers. Sir Tar and Sir Yalinari will be in chambers. They are each allowed one bodyguard to wait in the ante-room. Cust and Shasivin will do nicely, he thinks. He tried to get Morven in the room, but she cannot guarantee it. Technically, this is against the rules, but it is odd that there are two knights and Morven, acting as quasi-legal representation might be allowed. She will put it to the Council.
About her opinion of the Company, Tar has found out the following:
- Saphira, herself, brought to the council the tales of the Company
- The leaders of the Council, in terms of sway and not formal authority, are the Weigwur Chieften, The Captain of the Guard, and the Grove—the priest whose concern is the wild lands around the town.
- Of those, the Grove is the least caring about the town and tends to be more non-traditional
- The Wegiwur chief rarely opines and then only when it affects his people
- Therefore, the one to speak to is the Captain of the Guard
- Lastly, the rest are followers, but traditionalists in th old ways
- Bahira trusts Saphira more than the Company and dismisses Firena’s comments as being an outsiders attmept to settle some vendetta against Saphira
- However, the presence of two Knights of the Ram has set her back
- Saphira has told her that there papers are fake, but until Saphira hears from Traft or Schwartzenbruin
- Bahira is more interested in domestic tranquility than any “evil”, the Company, Greyhawk, or Iuz
After Firena gives Tar the pain kilelrs, she tells him that Vanith and Shasivin paid the bill and then left on time. As they were passing the area between the Wheelhouse, they saw one of “them shadow creatures” spring across the road going past the Wheelhouse. That attracted their attention and they saw Dreune in the shadows going between the Wheelhouse and the Cooper’s building. Not only did they think that odd, but also thought that he may need help. They ran to the corner and looked into the yard and saw Dreune with one of them critter’s on his back. He was trying to get it off, so Shasivin ran toward him. Nyra was no where to be seen. As Shasivin ran into the shadows, Dreune faded away as did the critter. Shasivin, perplexed looked around and saw what he thinks was Shalbiri. Next thing he knows he is blasted cold and his limbs no longer work. His heart felt like it would explode.
Vanith tells much the same story, except that she was there, looked at Vanith and smiled. When Shasivin fell, Shabiri rounded on Vanith. Vanith backed away into the wall. When the first blast of cold hit her she fell to the ground. Oddly, she was about as cold as she was on the iceblock, but nowhere near what she did to Shasivin or Morven earlier. She’s not certain what happened next.
Tar questions Firena about the shadow creatures, but Firena doesn’t have anything specific to add. Tar informs Firena that he has used such supterfuge himself and there is a possibility that the shadows aren’t even real. One thing that is known is that Shalbiri is real and it a threat. The Company needs to focus on her. Tar then asks a rhetorical question: Is Saphira working for Shalbiri or Shalbiri for Saphira? When Firena has no response, they move onto the watching/protection teams. Firena informs im of the following setup.
Team 1: Hanar, Shasivin, Ladbrooke, Korkyn
Team 2: Miles, Nyra, Orvin, Plynsen
Team 3: Dreune, Edmund, Alonso, Benito
Team 4: Drathon, Yalinari, Gustuv, William
Teams 1-3 will watch Saphira in 2-hour shifts, 1 shift on, 2 shifts off. Team 4 will accomplish any specialty jobs, such as examining Saphira’s house. They are also an impromptu stealth team. Cust, Alonso, and Shasivin will swap out watching over Tar on the same schedule as teams 1-3. Tovish will serve as Tar’s runner/messenger.
