Preparing for the Barrens [5 May 1211]
Its still about two hours from the border town of Noyan when the Company stops for lunch. From there, they have to cross the Opicm and then they’ll be in the Empire of Iuz. Its for that reason that before heading into Noyan, Tar calls a conclave.
When all are gathered, he starts:
Fro’ hea, we wiw be offishiawy entewing Iuz. We won’ be hea’ing indo downs un’ess we haff do. We also need do be on cons’an’ aler’. Drafon? Ray?
Drathon:
I’ll update the guard shifts. Double guards. Double point,
too. Outriders won’t go amiss. Shame we don’t have scouts.
Dreune:
Well, I guess there’s no need for the astral Guard shifts.
Nothings happened since we’ve seen the Kemet. There’s nothing that I can do to prepare in advance so that’ll keep me on my toes.
Tar turns on Dreune:
I wan’ a pwan. How aw yoo idendin’ doo protec’ us mashicawy?
Morven:
Even without the Kemet, it seems prudent to maintain Astral
guards, especially in this area of the Flaeness.
Dreune (a little disappointed):
Well, I guess that means we three will be on guard shifts from now on. As for the magic defense, we’ll have to rely on Nyra’s spirit conjuring and Earth magic. I’ll come up with something tonight.
Firena:
Any chance of moving Plynsen or Korkyn into the guard rotation?
Dreune:
Plynsen is still learning the basics. It will take a little bit for him to get up to speed Astrally. Korkyn, as Nyra tells me, is capable of looking astrally. He’ll be added to the list.
Tar nods. Anyfing ewse we nee’ do do?
Firena:
That covers daytime on the road and nighttime in camp. Does
anyone have any further suggestions?
Dreune:
I have no idea what we’ll be up against…except a being of eternal angriness. It’s mostly trial by fire and relying on text book knowledge. You have the best magic staff this side of the empire so you’ve nothing to worry about.
Tar shakes his head, but says nothing.
Morven:
Also, we have two amulets left. I assume they are currently
with the Captain and Lieutenant. Should we release them to the point riders and the guards?
Dreune:
And the guard shifts.
Tar:
Drafon? Id makes sense doo me.
Drathon:
Good idea. Don’t want them to rely on them. But good idea.
Tar and Firena both take off they’re amulets and hands them over to Drathon.
Drathon:
I’ll distribute them. After the conclave.
Dreune:
Don’t rely on them? Morven made those perfectly. It can be relied upon…unless you’re point was that the guards still have to be vigilant.
Drathon:
Yes. That is my point.
Dreune nods and the room is silent.
Tar:
OK. Dat is finishe. Nex’ We nee’ passash across da riffer.
Firena:
Look astrally for a bridge or ford?
Morven:
It could be a wide, lazy river. We may not need complicated
plans.
Drathon:
Best to be prepared.
Dreune:
That can be done…although we may need to create one anyway. As soon as we know, we’ll let the command staff know.
Firena:
Dreune and Morven have created a bridge before. And Nyra could always ask for help from one of her Earth Spirits.
Dreune:
When we know, we’ll let the command staff know.
Firena looks at Tar.
Tar:
Do id. We’w sed camp and moof oud tommorrow.
Drathon:
I’ll post the guard schedule. We’ll start tomorrow.
Tar:
Fank yoo aw. We’w ashourned.
